If you want to succeed in a crowded market you need to be better than the competition. And being better is often being different. That’s called positioning.

AQ's take: Crowded hosting market? Differentiated on 'truly managed'. Stood out, survived.

In the end, when launching a startup and finding your co-founders, you need to find the right combination between skills and mindset. It’s only when you find people with complementary skills but that have a similar mindset that you know you’ve found the right partners.

AQ's take: Needed this after picking wrong co-founders. Skills alone burned me twice.

Teaching is the best way to position yourself as a thought leader. Why? Because you bring value to people. You help them understand a topic they didn’t know about.

Teaching and documenting everything will force you to have more clarity. As David Perrell once said, “Read to collect the dots and write to connect them”.

Focusing on problems I was facing gave me the confidence of knowing that it will be helpful to me and knowing that something that is helpful to you is, in my opinion, the best way to get started. First, because you’ll be your first user and best critic. Second, because with the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, when you know that what you’re working on is helpful, it gives you enough courage to continue no matter what. And on top of it, let’s face it, with 7 billion people on the planet, if it’s helpful to you it will also be helpful to thousands of other people too.

AQ's take: Built BionicWP solving my pains first. Was my own brutal tester.

Here are a few questions to ask during the recorded call: Can you describe the problem you were facing before you actually started working with me? Can you please detail the frustrations you were experiencing when trying to solve this problem? Can you please describe the moment you understood that my service was the solution to the problem you were facing? What does your day-to-day look like now that this problem has been solved?

AQ's take: These questions mined gold from clients. Turned vague wins into sales ammo.

By building this audience I was able to learn 2 things: your network is your net worth (for real) the more you post things online the more people trust you The more people trust you, the easier it is for them to buy something from you.

AQ's take: Grew Twitter by posting pains. Trust snowballed into real deals.
